Talent vs. Effort continued...

Many surveys have been conducted asking Americans what is more important, talent or effort? For example, if you are hiring a new employee, what is more important, being hardworking or being intelligent? Most Americans chose hardworking in the survey. However, when probed indirectly, most Americans have a bias towards those with a "natural talent."
In an experiment, questionnaires were given to musical experts who also chose effortful training versus natural talent. These same experts were then presented with two pianists whose biographies were the same in regards to previous achievements with only one difference. "One is described as a 'natural' with early evidence of innate talent. The other is described as a 'striver' with early evidence of high motivation and perseverance." Each expert listened to a short clip of the two pianists playing a piece on the piano.  "Unbeknownst to the listeners, a single pianist is, in fact, playing different parts of the same piece...In direct contradiction to their stated beliefs about the importance of effort versus talent, musicians judge the natural to be more likely to succeed and more hirable." 
The same results occurred in another study completed in the business world with entrepreneurs. The naturals were rated higher. 
"What we say we care about may not correspond with what--deep down--we actually believe to be more valuable...But the bias is evident in the choices we make." (Duckworth, 2016, pp 23-25)
